Peyton Stearns vs Iva Jovic — F — Guadalajara Open

Iva Jovic defended her title at the Guadalajara Open, beating Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2 in 1 hour 20 minutes and finishing the week without dropping a set. The 18-year-old No. 2 seed has now won both of her recorded tour titles at this WTA 500 event. The opening set produced one break point, and Jovic took it, breaking in game 10 to close the set out 6-4. She broke again in the first game of the second set, and once more in game 7 for 5-2. Stearns' first-serve points won fell from 79 percent in the first set to 44 percent in the second. She saved two match points before Jovic finished it. Stearns never reached break point herself, winning none of her eight return games. Ranked WTA No. 60, she had come through Sloane Stephens and Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets after losing her US Open opener.
