Zeynep Sonmez defeated Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 7(7)-6(1) — Nottingham Open 2026 R32.
Zeynep Sonmez and Leylah Fernandez are level at 1–1 across 2 recorded meetings.
Zeynep Sonmez, ranked #67, knocked out the #23 Leylah Fernandez behind the one number that swung it: 68% of second-serve points won to Fernandez's 46%. Fernandez's seven aces never offset her four double faults, and the second set turned into a trade — Sonmez broke in game 1, Fernandez broke back twice, before Sonmez broke again in game 9 and ran the tiebreak 7-1. In her first meeting with Fernandez on grass, Sonmez books Viktorija Golubic next at the Nottingham Open.
