Denis Shapovalov defeated Rinky Hijikata 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 — Los Cabos Open 2026 R32.
Denis Shapovalov and Rinky Hijikata: Denis Shapovalov leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
The double faults stopped, and the match turned with them. Denis Shapovalov threw six into the opening set at Los Cabos, and Rinky Hijikata converted two of four break points to bank it. Only three more followed. The eighth seed finished at 78 percent on first-serve points to Hijikata's 66, didn't lose a first-serve point in the third, and broke for 2-1 in game 3, then 4-1 in game 5. Hijikata, the ATP No. 96, saved 8 of 12 break points but never earned a chance in the decider. He staved off a match point before Shapovalov closed, 2 hours and 1 minute in — his first win since Queen's in mid-June after dropping four of five coming in.
