Elina Svitolina reached the round of 16 at the China Open without dropping serve, beating Maria Sakkari in straight sets. The sixth seed broke the 25th seed once in each set. In the first set, the break gave her a 5-4 lead. In the second, it put her ahead 6-5 and came on her only break point of the set. Sakkari had more break points than Svitolina across the match, with chances in both sets, but she converted none of them. Svitolina converted two of her four.
