Elena Gabriela Ruse vs Magda Linette — R128 — Cincinnati Open

Linette could not hold. The Pole was broken out of five of seven service games and won just 26 percent of her second-serve points, while Ruse — with no prior meetings on record between them — took the opener with breaks in games 1, 3 and 5 before serving out the shutout set at 6-0. The 78-minute win ends a run of three losses in four for Ruse, whose Cincinnati opener came against a player ranked nine spots above her.
