Eighth-seeded Kamilla Rakhimova, WTA No. 76, opened her Korea Open with a two-hour, 45-minute three-set win over Polina Kudermetova in the round of 32. The two had no prior meetings on record. Serve was unreliable on both sides: each player held just nine of 17 service games, and between them they hit 32 double faults, 20 of those from Kudermetova. The opening set alone contained seven breaks before Rakhimova took it in a tiebreak. Second-serve points went Rakhimova's way more often, 38 percent to Kudermetova's 26. Kudermetova, ranked WTA No. 103, took the second set 6-4 to level the match, winning 78 percent of her first-serve points in it and breaking for 5-4 in the ninth game. In the decider Rakhimova won 93 percent of her first-serve points, yet Kudermetova broke again in game 9 for 5-4. Rakhimova broke straight back in game 10 for 5-5 and took the last two games.
