Alexei Popyrin vs Alejandro Tabilo — R64 — US Open

Down the opening set and without an ace in it, Tabilo had been broken in game 5 for 3-2 and again in game 7 for 5-2, winning 64 percent of his first-serve points while Popyrin hit six aces in that set alone. Then the serve turned up. He finished at 83 percent behind the first ball to Popyrin's 69, up to 95 in a third set where, as in the second, neither man faced a break point. The ace count went the other way, 25 to 17, and the 40 games split evenly; 35 unforced errors to 22 did the rest. Tabilo had lost their only meeting on record, on clay last year, and he closed this one with a break in game 8 for 6-2, three hours and 16 minutes in.
