Jessica Pegula defeated Magdalena Frech 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 — Washington Open 2026 R16.
Jessica Pegula and Magdalena Frech: Jessica Pegula leads 3–0 across 3 recorded meetings.
The return pressure took a set to pay off. Jessica Pegula went 0-for-5 on break points across a lost opening set, then won five of her last seven chances to finish 5-of-12 to Magdalena Frech's 2-of-7. The break that stuck came in game 4 of the second, for 3-1. Frech had won 76 percent of first-serve points in the opening set, though that figure sank to 14 in the third, where Pegula broke three more times. The WTA No. 43 saved a match point before the top seed converted her second, 1 hour, 53 minutes in. Pegula, through her Washington Open opener after a first-round bye, next meets WTA No. 20 Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals.
