Alycia Parks vs Leylah Fernandez — R16 — Singapore Tennis Open

Sixth seed Leylah Fernandez is into the Singapore Tennis Open quarterfinals after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alycia Parks in the round of 16, her second straight-sets win at the event. Fernandez broke twice early in the opening set for 4-1. Parks, ranked WTA No. 72, broke back in game 8 to reach 3-5, but Fernandez broke again in game 10 to close the set. The second set followed a similar path: Fernandez broke in game 3 for 2-1, Parks answered immediately in game 4, and Fernandez broke once more in game 5 for 3-2. Parks hit six aces and nine double faults and held five of her nine service games. Fernandez won 44 percent of her return games to Parks's 22 percent. Parks saved two match points in a match that lasted an hour and a half. The two had split four meetings on record, with Parks taking the most recent: a first-round win at the French Open in May.
