Sohyun Park defeated Robin Montgomery 7(7)-6(4), 6-3 — Korea Open 2026 R32.

Sohyun Park and Robin Montgomery: Sohyun Park leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.

Sohyun Park, a 24-year-old Korean wild card ranked WTA No. 328, beat Robin Montgomery 7-6(4), 6-3 in the opening round of the Korea Open in Seoul. The betting market had made Montgomery, ranked WTA No. 162, an 87 percent favorite. Holding serve was the hard part for both: 12 of the 21 service games ended in a break. Park created 13 break points and converted seven; Montgomery took five of six, from less than half as many chances. The first set produced six of those breaks. Montgomery broke in game 3, Park broke straight back and led 4-2 after another break in game 6. A break in game 9 pulled Montgomery to 4-5, and she broke again in game 11 to lead 6-5, before Park broke back in game 12 and won the tiebreak. Park led 4-1 in the second set after breaks in games 3 and 5. Montgomery broke back in games 6 and 8 but lost her own serve immediately each time, the last of those handing Park the match at 6-3. Six of Montgomery's eight double faults came in that set. Montgomery arrived as the Rosmalen Open champion, having won that final in June, but her two recorded matches since were both Grand Slam first-round losses. Park's previous outing on the record was a first-round exit at last year's Korea Open. Next per the draw is Lanlana Tararudee, then ranked No. 61.
