Oleksandra Oliynykova vs Yue Yuan — R128 — China Open

Home wild card Yue Yuan reached the second round of the China Open in Beijing with a 6-2, 6-3 win over WTA No. 47 Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine. Ranked 134th, Yuan was nonetheless the betting market's 63 percent favorite. Nine of the 17 games in the 90-minute match went against serve, and six of those breaks were Yuan's. She broke in the second game of both sets for a 2-0 lead. Oliynykova broke back three times, but twice Yuan broke again in the next game. Yuan's last break came in game 8 of the second set, for 5-3, and she served out the match. Oliynykova held only two of her eight service games and won fewer than half the points behind both her first and second serves. She converted all three break points she earned, while Yuan took six of 10. Yuan, 28, also reached the second round at last year's China Open, where she lost to Iga Swiatek.
