Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev beat qualifier Dalibor Svrcina 6-2, 6-3 in 73 minutes to reach the round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters. Svrcina, ATP No. 126, had come through qualifying and then won two three-setters in the main draw, against Cameron Norrie and Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Medvedev broke in the third and fifth games of the opening set. He won 94 percent of his first-serve points in that set and saved both break points he faced. He broke again in the first game of the second set and went up 4-1. Svrcina broke in the eighth game to trail 3-5, but Medvedev broke straight back to finish the match.
