The ninth seed came in on a three-match hard-court losing run and leaves on a four-match one, the betting market having already made the 88th-ranked Sonego a 59 percent favorite. Mannarino won 22 percent of his first-serve points in the opening set, was broken in games 4, 6 and 7, and finished with two aces to Sonego's nine. He did break for 4-2 in game 6 of the second, but the Italian broke back in game 9 for 4-5 and the set went to a tiebreak.
