Barbora Krejcikova vs Anna-Lena Friedsam — R32 — Singapore Tennis Open

Barbora Krejcikova took the first set 6-0 at the Singapore Tennis Open and still needed two hours and 58 minutes, and two saved match points, to get past qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam in the round of 32. Friedsam, a 32-year-old German ranked WTA No. 265 who began the season at WTA No. 153, won 22 percent of her first-serve points in that opening set. The second set ran the other way: Friedsam broke for 4-2 and took it 7-5. Six of the deciding set's last eight games went against serve. Friedsam broke for 5-3, Krejcikova broke back in game 9, and after Krejcikova broke again for 6-5, Friedsam broke in game 12 to force the tiebreak. Krejcikova, WTA No. 38, took it. The result ends a four-match losing run for Krejcikova, whose last win came in the Prague Open quarterfinals in July and who lost her US Open opener last month. The two had no prior meetings on record.
