Rafael Jodar vs Denis Shapovalov — R64 — Cincinnati Open

The decider looked gone at 1-4, and it turned on Jodar's return: three breaks in the last five games, the first for 3-5, then 5-5, then the one that closed it in game 12. Shapovalov, who had beaten the Spaniard in their only prior meeting on record in straight sets at Dallas in February, dropped his first-serve winning rate to 56 percent in that third set and coughed up three double faults. Each man saved a match point across two hours and 50 minutes. Jodar answers a Toronto semifinal exit and moves on; Shapovalov leaves having won 109 of 223 points and none of the ones that mattered late.
