Rafael Jodar vs Flavio Cobolli — R16 — Cincinnati Open

The decider came down to who stopped missing. Cobolli made 23 unforced errors in the opening set and eight in the third, out-hitting Jodar 11 winners to 6 once the match got there. The second-set tiebreak was the hinge. From there the break he needed arrived in game 6 for 4-2, while the 12th seed held the sharper first serve at 69 percent of those points won to 66 and took three of eight break chances, yet finished three points behind across 215 played. Jodar saved one match point; Cobolli took the next, 2 hours 31 minutes in, and a third straight three-setter this week sends the seventh seed into the quarterfinals in Cincinnati.
