Eighth seed Liudmila Samsonova came through 7-6(6), 6-2 against Elsa Jacquemot in the Guadalajara Open round of 32, her first win since Cincinnati in mid-August and her first match since an opening-round loss at the US Open. Jacquemot, a 23-year-old French player ranked WTA No. 114 after starting the season at No. 56, broke in game 9 of the opening set for 5-4 and served for it. Samsonova broke straight back and took the tiebreak 8-6. The second set went one way early. Samsonova broke in games 1, 3 and 5 for a 5-0 lead, and although Jacquemot broke back in game 6, she won only one more game. Six of her eight double faults came in that set. Samsonova converted four of her five break points, Jacquemot two of eight.
