·Masters·HardMagdalena Frech defeated Elsa Jacquemot 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 — China Open 2026 R128.
Elsa Jacquemot and Magdalena Frech: Magdalena Frech leads 2–0 across 2 recorded meetings.
Magdalena Frech needed three sets and 2 hours, 42 minutes to get past qualifier Elsa Jacquemot in the first round of the China Open. The WTA No. 48 from Poland had dropped only four games against Jacquemot in Hobart in January, their only previous meeting on record. Jacquemot, a 23-year-old from France, began the season ranked 56th but arrived in Beijing ranked 165th. The opening set had five breaks of serve. After Jacquemot broke back for 4-4, Frech broke for 5-4 and was broken immediately. She then broke again for 6-5 and took the set 7-5. Jacquemot double-faulted seven times in that set. She had no double faults in the second set, when she broke for 3-1 and saved the only break point she faced to force a deciding set. Frech broke for 2-0 in the third set and faced only one break point in it. Jacquemot converted that chance in game 9 to get within 4-5, but Frech won the next game to close out the match.
