Donna Vekic defeated Talia Gibson 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 — US Open 2026 R128.
Talia Gibson and Donna Vekic: Donna Vekic leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Nine break points came and went in the deciding set before Vekic converted the two that mattered, the last of them in game 9 for 6-3, two and a half hours in. Gibson had answered the opening set with three breaks in the second and matched the Croat winner for winner at 27 apiece, but the ledger turned on 36 unforced errors to 28. Vekic's nine double faults nearly handed it back. The win ends a five-match losing run dating to her Queen's Club title in June, and puts her opposite No. 30 Ann Li next.
