Jaime Faria defeated Arthur Fery 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 — Japan Open 2026 R32.

Jaime Faria and Arthur Fery: Jaime Faria leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.

Lucky loser Jaime Faria reached the Japan Open round of 16 by beating Arthur Fery in just over two hours. The 23-year-old Portuguese has climbed to ATP No. 61 from No. 151 at the start of the season. Fery, ranked 36th, reached the Wimbledon semifinals in July but came in off losses in the Winston-Salem final and his US Open opener. Almost nothing separated them over the full match. Each man broke serve three times, so the sets turned on when those breaks came. Faria broke twice in the opening set, the first for 2-0. Fery's only break came in game 9 for 4-5, and Faria took the set 6-4. In the second set, Faria failed to convert any of his five break points. Fery converted two of his three, including a break in game 5 for 3-2, and leveled the match at a set apiece. The deciding set came down to one break. Faria converted the only break point he earned, in game 3 for 2-1, and saved all three that Fery created.
