Bucsa won 51 percent of her first-serve points to Vidmanova's 73, and the betting market had already leaned this way, making the WTA No. 88 a 55 percent favorite over the No. 38. Bucsa did break in game 9 of the second set for 5-4, only to lose the break straight back in game 10 for 5-5; she took five of her seven break chances on the day and still lost the points count 70-60. Vidmanova had managed four games against her in their only prior meeting on record, at Indian Wells in March. She needed 1h 43m to reverse that, and the quarterfinal is her first since a runner-up week at the Memphis Classic earlier this month.
