·500·HardCarlos Alcaraz defeated Jaume Munar 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 — Japan Open 2026 Semifinal.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jaume Munar: Carlos Alcaraz leads 2–0 across 2 recorded meetings.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is one win from retaining his Japan Open title after coming from a set down to beat fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar in a semifinal that lasted two and a half hours. Munar, ATP No. 64, had opened his week by beating last year's runner-up, Taylor Fritz. His only previous meeting on record with Alcaraz, at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships, also went to a third set, which Alcaraz won 7-5. In the opening set, Alcaraz broke for 4-3, but Munar broke back in the 10th game for 5-5 and took the set 7-5, converting both of his break points. All four of Alcaraz's double faults came in that set. The second set opened with three straight breaks, the last putting Alcaraz ahead 2-1. Munar did not break him again. Alcaraz broke three more times, including twice in the decider for a 4-0 lead, and won 93% of his first-serve points in that set to Munar's 42%.
