Luciano Darderi vs Rinky Hijikata — R64 — Cincinnati Open

Seeded 19th and a 60 percent pick with the betting market, Darderi played eight return games without earning a single break point. Hijikata never faced one either, holding all eight of his own service games and putting 10 aces past the Italian to two the other way, the first of his three breaks landing in game 3 of the opener for 2-1. The Sydneysider had trailed the meetings on record 2-1 coming in, his lone win arriving at Indian Wells in March. It was done in 71 minutes, a second straight win at the Cincinnati Open for the 25-year-old, who had lost four in a row before taking out Gael Monfils in the opening round.
