·500·HardAdolfo Daniel Vallejo defeated Rafael Jodar 6-1, 6-3 — Japan Open 2026 R32.
Adolfo Daniel Vallejo and Rafael Jodar: Adolfo Daniel Vallejo leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Qualifier Adolfo Daniel Vallejo needed 67 minutes to eliminate fourth seed Rafael Jodar in the Round of 32 at the ATP 500 Japan Open. Jodar is a 20-year-old Spaniard who began the season ranked 165th. In August he reached the Washington Open final and the Canadian Open semifinals. The betting market had made him a 74 percent favorite. Vallejo, a 22-year-old Paraguayan, arrived in Tokyo at ATP No. 56, up from 143rd at the start of the season. Beating the 13th-ranked Jodar gave him his highest-ranked win on record. The previous best was an August victory in Cincinnati over Valentin Vacherot, then ranked 18th. Jodar held only twice in his eight service games, winning 12 of 27 points behind his first serve and 5 of 18 behind his second. Vallejo broke in the first, third and fifth games to lead 5-0. He converted all four break points he earned in the opening set, and Jodar's only break of the set came in the sixth game. In the second set, Jodar saved six of the eight break points he faced. Vallejo went ahead 3-1 with a break in the fourth game. Jodar broke back in the seventh to close to 3-4, but Vallejo broke again right away for 5-3 and served out the match.
