Second seed Frances Tiafoe needed 74 minutes to win in straight sets against home wild card Kei Nishikori in the Japan Open Round of 32. Tiafoe, ATP No. 8, reached the US Open semifinals last month. Nishikori, 36, entered at ATP No. 436, and his previous match on record was a loss in late July at the Washington Open. Tiafoe broke in the opening game. Nishikori broke back for 2-2 on what turned out to be his only break point of the match, but Tiafoe broke again in game 7 for 4-3 and closed out the set.
