Marie Bouzkova vs Qinwen Zheng — R32 — China Open

Qinwen Zheng reached the round of 16 at the China Open by beating 18th seed Marie Bouzkova in two hours and 54 minutes. Zheng, unseeded and ranked WTA No. 54, was playing her home event a month after reaching the US Open quarterfinals. The betting market made her a narrow favorite. The match finished level in games and breaks, with each player winning 17 games and breaking serve four times. Zheng won more points, 111 to 98, and created twice as many break points. She converted only four of her 12, while Bouzkova took four of six. Half of Zheng's break points came in the opening set, where she converted one of six. Bouzkova's break in game 6 leveled the set at 3-3, and Zheng won the tiebreak 7-3. Bouzkova then broke in the first and third games of the second set for a 3-0 lead and went on to win it 6-4. Zheng did not face a break point in the decider, and Bouzkova saved one match point before Zheng won it 7-5. Every one of Zheng's three matches in Beijing has now gone to a third set. She beat Han Shi in three sets, and Anna Kalinskaya retired trailing 3-0 in the third.
