Sixteenth-seeded Alexandrova is out of the Cincinnati Open in the third round, beaten again by an opponent ranked 19 spots below her in the WTA rankings. The betting market had her a bare 51 percent favorite, and the serve came apart: seven of twelve service games held, two of seven break points saved, seven double faults. Bejlek broke five times from seven chances, taking game 6 of the second set for 5-1 and game 5 of the third for 4-1. Wins over Pliskova and Krejcikova had carried her that far without a set lost, and she now leads the series 2-0 on record, the first a February final in Abu Dhabi.
