·Slam·HardTristan Schoolkate defeated Nishesh Basavareddy 7(7)-6(4), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 — US Open 2026 R128.
Nishesh Basavareddy and Tristan Schoolkate: Tristan Schoolkate leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
The fourth set came down to a single return game, Schoolkate breaking in game 5 for 3-2 and then conceding Basavareddy no break point at all the rest of the way, which was the only separation three hours and two minutes produced between two qualifiers who split 237 points 119 to 118. What held up late was the Australian's serve: 24 aces, 18 of 19 service games held. Basavareddy had the better second ball. The 21-year-old won 59 percent behind it to Schoolkate's 47, broke twice in the second set (game 6 for 4-2, then game 9 for 6-3) and took 26 of 33 at net, and he still finished a point short. It is Schoolkate's first win since he beat Lorenzo Sonego here last August, ending six straight losses on record for a player who opened the season at ATP No. 97 and arrived 0-4 on hard courts in 2026. He moves into the second round at the US Open.
