Ekaterina Alexandrova came from a set down to beat 11th seed Diana Shnaider in the round of 32 at the China Open, reaching the last 16 in Beijing. Alexandrova, the 19th seed and WTA No. 28, was the underdog in the betting market, which had made Shnaider a 66 percent favorite. Shnaider broke in game 4 of the first set and lost her serve right away, but she broke again in game 6 and went on to take the set. The second set opened with another Shnaider break before Alexandrova broke back for 2-2 in game 4. Shnaider won only 47 percent of her first-serve points in that set, and Alexandrova converted two of three break points to level the match. In the deciding set, Alexandrova won 88 percent of her first-serve points and hit five of her seven aces. Shnaider had four break points in that set and converted none of them. Alexandrova took her only chance, breaking in game 6 for 4-2. Over 1 hour 54 minutes, she won 87 points to Shnaider's 83. Alexandrova has now won three of their four meetings on record. That includes a straight-sets semifinal win at the 2025 Ningbo Open.
