Jasmin Ortenzi and Paula Badosa: Paula Badosa leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Second seed Paula Badosa dropped the opening set and won the next two 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals at the SP Open, the WTA 250 in São Paulo, in a round-of-16 match that ran 2 hours 15 minutes. Jasmin Ortenzi had the better of the first set. Badosa broke in game 4 for 3-1, but the 24-year-old Argentine, ranked WTA No. 160, broke three times from game 7 onward to take it 6-4. Badosa, ranked WTA No. 70, had been an 88 percent favorite in William Hill's pre-match market. Badosa's first-serve points won climbed from 60 percent in the opening set to 80 percent in the second and 92 percent in the third, while Ortenzi's slid from 60 to 47 and then 41. Ortenzi broke to open the second set, but Badosa broke back in game 2 and again in game 4. She then finished each of the last two sets with a break in game 8. Ortenzi kept the better conversion rate, taking four of five break points to Badosa's six of 12, but only three of those chances came after the opening set. Her first-round win over Chloe Paquet had been her first recorded match since the Copa Colsanitas semifinals in April.
