Fifteenth-seeded Tommy Paul is through to the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals after he beat ATP No. 39 Zizou Bergs in straight sets. Paul has now won three matches in Shanghai without dropping a set. Bergs had the better chances early. Nobody broke serve in the first set, but Bergs earned five break points on Paul's serve and failed to convert any of them. Paul then won the tiebreak 7-5. The second set started much faster for Paul. He broke Bergs in the first and third games to lead 3-0. Bergs broke back in game 6 to trail 2-4 but did not break again. Across the match, Paul saved eight of the nine break points he faced, while Bergs saved two of four. Bergs hit more winners, 17 to Paul's 14, but also made more unforced errors, 29 to 23. Paul lost only 10 games in his earlier wins over Adolfo Daniel Vallejo and Valentin Vacherot. Next up is ATP No. 5 Daniil Medvedev.
