Jaime Faria vs Luciano Darderi — QF — Estoril Open

Faria's second serve buckled first. Luciano Darderi took 60 percent of points behind his second ball to Jaime Faria's 45 and converted 4 of 10 break chances; the ATP No. 92 cashed 3 of 11. Faria banked the opener on 67 percent first-serve points and four aces — the second seed's first dropped set of a week that had cost him one game — but converted 1 of 5 break points thereafter. Game 9 of the second set turned it. Darderi broke there, broke again in game 11 for 6-5, then pulled clear in the third with breaks in games 3 and 5 for 4-1. Two hours, 27 minutes in, a first meeting on record ended with the ATP No. 18 in the Estoril Open semifinals.
