·500·HardValentin Vacherot defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 4-6, 7(7)-6(5), 6-4 — Japan Open 2026 R16.
Valentin Vacherot and Stefanos Tsitsipas: Valentin Vacherot leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Eighth seed Valentin Vacherot trailed Stefanos Tsitsipas by a set and a break before winning in three sets to reach the Japan Open quarterfinals in Tokyo. The Monegasque, who won the 2025 Shanghai Masters, had not reached a quarterfinal since Gstaad in July. Tsitsipas, ranked ATP No. 44, took the opening set without facing a break point, breaking for 3-2 and winning 84 percent of his first-serve points. He broke again in the third game of the second set and kept that lead until game 8, when Vacherot broke back for 4-4. Vacherot then won the tiebreak 7-5. In the deciding set, his break in game 5 for 3-2 was the only break, and Tsitsipas converted neither of his two break points. Little separated them over 2 hours and 12 minutes. Tsitsipas created eight break points to Vacherot's five, but each man converted two. Vacherot has won all three tiebreaks he has played in Tokyo this week. Two of them came in a 7-6(2), 7-6(4) opener against Alexander Blockx.
