·Masters·HardAlina Charaeva defeated Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 — China Open 2026 R64.
Elena Rybakina and Alina Charaeva: Alina Charaeva leads 1–0 across 1 recorded meeting.
Alina Charaeva, ranked 118th, beat top seed Elena Rybakina from a set down in the second round of the China Open. Rybakina, the WTA No. 1, had a first-round bye, so the loss came in her opening match. It ended the seven-match winning streak that brought her the US Open title last month. The betting market had made her a 90 percent favorite. Charaeva, 24, has made a habit of winning from a set down. Five of her six previous wins on record came that way, including a first-round victory over Yuliia Starodubtseva two days earlier. Charaeva broke in the match's opening game, but Rybakina won a first set that included five breaks of serve, three of them hers. The second set went the other way, with Charaeva breaking twice to Rybakina's once. Rybakina won 47 percent of her first-serve points in that set, down from 67 percent in the first. The deciding set had a single break, Charaeva's for 4-2 in game 6.
