Qinwen Zheng defeated Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3 — US Open 2026 R16.
Iga Swiatek and Qinwen Zheng: Iga Swiatek leads 3–1 across 4 recorded meetings.
The No. 8 seed was a 78 percent favorite with the bet365 market, and she led the opening set 4-0. The serve then deserted her: Swiatek won 59 percent of her first-serve points to 81 for Zheng, and was broken in game 11 for 6-5, then again in game 12. Zheng needed a fourth match point after the eighth seed, who ended with 26 unforced errors to 17, saved three; the whole thing took 1 hour 55 minutes. The 23-year-old had lost all three prior meetings on record, each on hard courts, and is into the quarterfinals ranked 121st after starting the season at WTA No. 24.
