Donna Vekic vs Xinyu Wang — R32 — Singapore Tennis Open

Xinyu Wang needed 65 minutes to beat eighth-seeded Donna Vekic in the Singapore Tennis Open round of 32, dropping three games and none of her own service games. Wang, WTA No. 40 and three places below Vekic in the rankings, broke for 3-1 in the opening set and twice more to finish it. The pattern held after that, with breaks in games 5 and 7 of the second set. Vekic held three of seven times, won seven of 21 points behind her second serve, and saw her only break point of the match go unconverted. The two arrived level at 1-1 in meetings on record, Wang having recovered from a set down at the Cincinnati Open in August. Seeding aside, the betting market had made her a narrow 51% favorite here.
