Daria Kasatkina vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich — R32 — Singapore Tennis Open

Aliaksandra Sasnovich, ranked WTA No. 130, beat Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 6-0 in the opening round of the Singapore Tennis Open, breaking serve six times in 74 minutes. The win was Sasnovich's first on a hard court on record since she beat Paula Badosa in February; she had lost the five hard-court matches in between. The betting market favored Kasatkina, 45 places higher at WTA No. 85, at 59 percent, and the two had no prior meetings on record. Five of the first set's 12 games went against serve. Sasnovich broke in the opening game, Kasatkina answered for 2-2, and the two traded breaks again as Sasnovich moved to 5-4 and Kasatkina levelled at 5-5. Sasnovich broke once more in game 11 and served out the set. Kasatkina never held again. She lost all three of her service games in the second set and finished having held three of nine for the match, with six double faults to Sasnovich's none. Sasnovich won 67 percent of her return games; Kasatkina won 25 percent of hers. Kasatkina, 4-9 on hard courts this season, has now lost five of her last six on the surface, including a first-round exit at the US Open.
