Zverev wins the US Open, holding 19 of 20 service games past Shelton — Sep 13, 2026

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 13, 2026 names Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina.

Alexander Zverev is the US Open men's champion. The top seed beat eighth-seeded Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in 3 hours 27 minutes, the only match on the tournament's closing day, and takes over the title Carlos Alcaraz won in New York in 2025.

The margin sat on serve. Zverev held 19 of his 20 service games and won 85 percent of his first-serve points, against 71 for Shelton, who saved two of the six break points he faced. Shelton, ATP No. 9, out-hit Zverev 47 winners to 35 and made 47 unforced errors to Zverev's 31.

Zverev arrived 3-0 in meetings on record, among them a 6-2, 6-2 quarterfinal at the Cincinnati Open. Elena Rybakina had taken the women's title a day earlier.

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 12, 2026 names Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka.

Elena Rybakina is the US Open women's champion. The No. 2 seed beat top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in 2 hours 15 minutes, in the day's only completed match.

Rybakina broke in game 5 of the opening set and made five unforced errors in it to Sabalenka's 15. Sabalenka answered by taking the second set 7-5, then dropped serve in games 3 and 7 of the decider. Rybakina won every first-serve point she played in that third set.

She landed only 47 percent of her first serves across the match but won 85 percent of those points, with 12 aces. Sabalenka saved nine of 12 break points and one match point; her 35 unforced errors against Rybakina's 24 were the gap.

Sabalenka led their meetings on record 6-4 coming in. Rybakina's other win over her this season was January's Australian Open final.

Zverev by three points, Shelton by 47 winners: Day 13 sets the final — Sep 11, 2026

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 11, 2026 names Zverev, Khachanov, Shelton, Tiafoe, Alcaraz and won all four meetings on record.

Three points separated the top seed from a US Open exit on Day 13. Zverev took 107 of 211 points against Khachanov, unseeded and ranked 49th, needing 2 hours 57 minutes and back-to-back tiebreaks to reach the final. The lower-ranked man won first-serve points at the better rate, 82 percent to 79, and still lost, broken twice in 16 service games to Zverev's once in 17.

In the other semifinal, Shelton dropped the opener to Tiafoe with 14 unforced errors, then made 17 across the next three sets, breaking for 3-2 in game five of the third and finishing with 47 winners to 27 in 3 hours 10 minutes. The eighth seed, who beat Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, reaches a first Grand Slam final after semifinal exits at the 2023 US Open and 2025 Australian Open. The final pairs the French Open champion with a first-time Slam finalist, and Zverev has won all four meetings on record.

Day 12 sorts by seed and leaves the US Open a 1-vs-2 final — Sep 10, 2026

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 10, 2026 names Gauff, Rybakina, Sabalenka and Pegula.

Day 12 at the US Open sent both women's semifinals to the higher seed, and only one was contested. Gauff took the opening set off Rybakina, then watched the second seed's serve harden — first-serve points won climbing 69 to 86 to 87 percent as the fourth seed's fell from 75 to 52 — in a 2-hour-8-minute defeat. The decider turned late: a break in game 8 for 5-3, Gauff back on serve in game 9, a second break in game 10 to close it.

In the other half, Sabalenka held all 10 service games against Pegula, who won first-serve points at a higher rate, 78 percent to 74, and lost three serves in 1 hour 20 minutes. Their final is a third 2026 title match between No. 1 and No. 2: Rybakina took the Australian Open final, Sabalenka Indian Wells, and the top seed leads 6-4 on record, 4-4 on hard.

A fifth-set tiebreak ends Alcaraz's US Open on Day 11 — Sep 9, 2026

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 9, 2026 names 11 players.

Alcaraz is out of the US Open, beaten in a Day 11 quarterfinal that ran 4 hours 28 minutes to a fifth-set tiebreak. The No. 2 seed had won both prior meetings on record and out-hit Shelton 12 winners to six in a decider with no breaks of serve, and still lost it. The second set was the leak: 17 unforced errors, three of nine break points handed to the eighth seed.

Two courts over, Khachanov went through when Blockx, the 28th seed, retired at 3-2 in the third, and top-seeded Zverev gave up eight games to the 71st-ranked Van De Zandschulp. Both women's quarterfinals went to the player who lost the first set: Gauff won a second-set tiebreak against fifth-seeded Andreeva, while Rybakina needed three sets against 121st-ranked Zheng. Two men's seeds are gone, and the half Alcaraz vacated now tops out at Shelton's No. 8. Gauff and Rybakina, both three-set winners here, meet for a place in the final.

Two tiebreaks for the No. 1 seed: Day 10 quarterfinals hold to form — Sep 8, 2026

The US Open 2026 daily recap for Sep 8, 2026 names Sabalenka, Noskova, Tiafoe, Michelsen, Pegula and Navarro.

Chalk held through Day 10 at the US Open, and the top seed came nearest to breaking it. Sabalenka needed 2 hours 21 minutes and two tiebreaks to get past the No. 6 seed, Noskova breaking for 3-2 in the decider before Sabalenka broke back in game 8 for 4-4. Noskova out-aced her 18-12 and made six unforced errors in the third to Sabalenka's 12, and lost anyway.

Two courts over, Tiafoe and Michelsen split 343 points across 4 hours 38 minutes: the 45th-ranked Michelsen won 173 of them and lost, 21 aces undercut by nine double faults and 61 unforced errors, the 11th seed taking 29 of 41 net points and the fifth-set tiebreak. Pegula dropped the opener to Navarro and won the next two in 2 hours 19 minutes. Every favorite held, and the women's top half yields a No. 1 versus No. 3 semifinal, Sabalenka against Pegula.

A 121st-ranked qualifier ends Swiatek's US Open on Day 9 — Sep 7, 2026

Swiatek's US Open ended on Day 9 in the fourth round, to a qualifier ranked 113 places below her. Zheng, 121st, broke the No. 8 seed five times in 11 service games and won 24 of 56 first-serve return points to Swiatek's 4 of 24, in 1 hour 55 minutes. The qualifier had lost all three prior meetings on record, the last 6-3, 6-3 at Indian Wells in 2025.

The women's seeds otherwise held, Rybakina needing an hour against Osaka and Gauff and Andreeva coming through against Jovic and Potapova. Two men's seeds fell to lower-ranked opponents, Tien in five over 3 hours 49 minutes to the 49th-ranked Khachanov and Cerundolo to Blockx, while top-seeded Zverev dropped four games in the opening two sets against Darderi. Swiatek's exit leaves the qualifier a quarterfinal against the No. 2 seed, and the only quarterfinal pairing two top-five seeds sends Andreeva against Gauff.
