Nikoloz Basilashvili About

Basilashvili at 34: outside the top 100, still beating top-10 opponents

Nikoloz Basilashvili is a 34-year-old right-hander from Tbilisi, ranked outside the top 100 through 2026 and still capable of beating the players at the top of it. He stood at ATP No. 121 with 491 points on 29 September 2026, after opening the season at No. 107 and peaking at No. 105. The best rank in The Drop Shot's ranking records is ATP No. 84, first logged in February 2023; earlier seasons are not fully covered there.

The 2026 numbers cut both ways. He has won 77% of his first-serve points while producing fewer winners than unforced errors over the season, and his record stands at 7-9, with five wins in his last 10 matches.

The best of that form has come against high-ranked opponents. In May 2026 he beat Ben Shelton, then ATP No. 6, in the round of 64 at the Italian Open, then reached the round of 16 before Andrey Rublev beat him in three sets. At Wimbledon in July 2025 he won his opener against Lorenzo Musetti, then ATP No. 7, and went out in the second round.

His most recent run came in late September 2026, when three straight-set wins carried him to the Chengdu Open semifinals. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina recovered from a set down there to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
