Miomir Kecmanovic About

Misha: the IMG-forged Serb who settled in as a top-50 constant

Miomir Kecmanovic came up as a blue-chip junior before the pro ranks ever pressure-tested him. The Belgrade-born right-hander started at six, then left home at 13 — accompanied by his aunt — for the IMG Academy in Florida, the hard-court production line that shaped much of his generation. He finished 2016 atop the junior rankings, ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas, and turned pro the same year carrying the kind of pedigree that promises a durable top-50 floor more than a top-10 ceiling.

The game is a flat, compact baseline build: clean contact off both wings, a backhand he leans on under duress, and footwork that lets him take the ball early and redirect pace rather than generate it himself. He's not an overpowering server or a shot-maker who ends points in two strokes; his edge is consistency and court coverage, grinding opponents into errors. On a quick hard court that rewards his timing, he can trouble anyone — but he's also vulnerable when bigger hitters take time away.

The career arc has been steady rather than spiky. He broke through to a maiden ATP title and a career-high inside the top 30, with deep runs at the majors — including a fourth-round appearance at a Grand Slam — and wins over established tour names along the way. As Serbia's perennial No. 2 behind Novak Djokovic, he's been a reliable Davis Cup and team-event presence, the dependable second-fiddle rather than the headliner.

This season he sits at No. 49, the kind of placement that has defined most of his career — never far from the top 30, rarely threatening the top 20. The clay swing through the Madrid Open, Italian Open and Roland-Garros is where he's traditionally tried to bank ranking points before the surfaces speed up again.
