Leolia Jeanjean About

Five years away, three degrees, and one wildcard in Paris

Jeanjean's professional career began roughly a decade later than the plan. The Montpellier-born right-hander was a French junior of some standing — semifinals at the national championships at 12, 14 and 16 — before a serious knee injury took close to five years out of her tennis, a gap she spent in the American college system at Baylor, Lynn and Arkansas, finishing her senior season at Lynn in 2019 undefeated in singles at 21-0 and in doubles at 29-0, with a finance MBA attached.

Nothing in the game arrives free. Her ace rate sits at 2.9 percent of service points and she has held serve 56.4 percent of the time on record, so the argument gets made from the baseline and on return, where 39.7 percent of return points won is the figure that travels; the wins cluster on clay, which gives her the time to build.

The week that made her name was Roland Garros in 2022: ranked 227th, in a tour-level main draw for the first time, she beat eighth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round, the lowest-ranked woman to beat a top-10 player in Paris since 1988. The ranking caught up three summers later, with a first tour-level quarterfinal in Bogotá, a maiden WTA 1000 main-draw win over Yuliia Starodubtseva at the Cincinnati Open and career-high WTA No. 91 on Aug. 18, 2025. The title column still reads zero.

As of September 2026 she is 31 and ranked WTA No. 127, down from 102 at the season's start at 4-8, a line that undersells a year in which she beat Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round in Rome, took the opening set off Jasmine Paolini in the next, and won a first Wimbledon main-draw match. Losing the US Open second round to Anastasia Potapova in three still left this: a major second round on clay, grass and hard inside two seasons.
