Gustavo Heide is a 24-year-old from São Paulo who has built his career on South American clay, one Challenger at a time. He earned his first ATP point at 16 and cracked the top 500 in 2021, off a top-20 junior ranking and the boys' third round at Roland Garros in 2020. His first hardware came in doubles: Pan American Games gold in Santiago in 2023 with Marcelo Demoliner, the same year he won his Davis Cup singles debut against China.
At 6-foot-3 he does not play like the archetype. Coached by Arthur Rabelo, Heide is a right-hander with a two-handed backhand who wins clay matches on movement and depth, not free points, as evidenced by a 3.7 percent ace rate and 60.5 percent of break points saved across a thin tour-level stat log.
The tour-level arc opened in 2024: a wild card into the Rio Open in February, then a qualifier's main-draw debut at the French Open, where he took two sets off Sebastián Báez over five. Two months earlier he had beaten compatriot João Fonseca in three sets for a first Challenger title in Asunción, the week that pushed him inside the top 200. Titles followed in Florianópolis in 2025 and at home in Campinas in April 2026, over Gonzalo Bueno, with a runner-up week in Abruzzo against Facundo Díaz Acosta.
As of September 2026 Heide sits at ATP No. 128 with 474 points, a career high first reached in late August and a climb of 171 places from No. 299 a year earlier; his February return to Rio ended in the round of 32, a tiebreak from a third set against Vít Kopriva. He is Brazil's second-ranked singles player. Across the 2026 majors he has yet to clear qualifying: the ranking has arrived, the main draws have not.
